My Repair Man

It's not often that Will gets excited about anything other than video games, basketball or teasing Emma.  If I ask him to do anything, it's usually met with a groan and feet dragging.  I do make ridiculous requests.  I mean, how silly is it that I expect Will to bring his dirty clothes downstairs or pick up after himself?  I should just get over myself.

So, we were all getting ready for church on Christmas Eve, and I mentioned that I wished my favorite necklace wasn't broken because I really wanted to wear it.  He suddenly looked up (shocker number one - he was listening to me) and wanted to see the necklace.  After checking it out for a minute, he disappeared and came back with a link from one of Emma's broken necklaces and needle-nosed pliers.  Not long after that he appeared in my bathroom with the fixed necklace - I KID YOU NOT!

I could have never fixed it in a million years, but somehow that little guy knew just what to do, and he was very proud of fixing my necklace.  I'm very proud of him, too.  Later that night, after Emma did her reading at church, he said, "Emma, you did such a good job.  I could never do that."  Kevin and I nearly fell over.  An unprompted compliment to his sister.  I can't even begin to give you the odds of that happening again  You know, sometimes that little guy really impresses me.  I need to remember these times with the teenage years just days away.  I also need to write a thank you letter to LEGO for making him so handy.

  1. I'm so glad that I found your blog. My son is almost 11 and everything I ask him to do, he acts like its an act of Congress. I don't know if I will make it through the teenage years! Your son did a great job fixing the necklace. It gives me hope. Ha!
